On the American Independent website I found an article called The Goal Of UT parenting to Influence Decisions on Gay Marriages on how the supreme court conducted a study with the Witherspoon Institute to at The University of Texas that’s critical on gay parenting to see the outcome of children from their freshman year of college until graduation who were brought up in a same sex couple marriage.
The study was made to manipulate public policy and give them meaning the Supreme Court reasons on why same sex marriages should not be allowed on the state of Texas. When they studies it showed that children who were brought up in same sex couple households regardless if they lived with both parents or just one who was involved in a same sex relationship were more likely to experience negative social, physiological and economic outcomes than children who were raised in a heterosexual couple.
Religious groups have been challenging legality of same sex marriages for years and trying to use data to sway the public, lawmakers, and the courts to be on their side of the debate. Groups seeking to block gay marriage and also try to keep it from happening use this case study to show that their not just doing this to be cruel they have their "evidence" and some anti-same sex groups also came to the conclusion that "gay parents are inferior to straight parents".
The Catholic Bishops recently filed a friend of the court brief arguing that a mother and a father each bring something unique and irreplaceable when raising a child and that if the child is brought up in a same sex marriage that they will miss out on that "unique thing" from a mother and dad and will then grow up with some part that they never knew they could have missing which sounds very ridiculous to me!
Their intent for this article I think was to sway readers in believing that same sex couples do a terrible job at raising kids and since they can’t raise their children the "right way" to even say there is a right way they can't get married basically and that to me is not right. I feel that just because their children don’t have positive outcomes doesn't mean they can’t grant the right to get married because that has nothing to do with getting married.
Who’s to say just because they’re the same sex that means their children are going to have rough childhoods growing up, there is more to a child's upbringing than their parents you also have to focus on they friends they hang out with and what activities they partake in, their economic statuses, there are more than just the sex of someone’s parents to determine their lives in the future!
I also didn't agree with how they did the case study they used one school, first of all if you’re doing any type of study you need all the different types of subjects, they didn't do children of same sex couples who attend private schools, who were homed schooled, or who didn't even go to school and that could've most definitely changed or alter the results they did get.
No one should be denied rights to marry because of some unorganized, poorly put together study that portray same sex couples to be these terrible people who have no common sense on how to raise a child because it isn't right I mean there's people who grew in heterosexual households and came out with negative social problems and economic hardships and I doubt that was because their parents weren't a same sex couple!
